Buenos Aires short-term rental registry: what it is and how it works

Updated: July 2026

Since February 3rd, 2025, renting an apartment for tourism in the City of Buenos Aires requires registering it in the Tourist Rental Registry (Law 6,255). Registration is free, and without the registry number platforms like Airbnb and Booking are required to take the listing down. If you decide to register your property, we handle the whole process for you.

Who must register?

Any owner (or authorized manager) offering a home in Buenos Aires for tourist rental, on platforms or independently. It applies even if you rent just a few weeks a year.

Requirements to register

What happens if you don’t register?

Fines from 700 to 1,000 fixed units (up to roughly $1,000,000), and platforms must remove any listing without a visible registry number. Airbnb already requires the registry field for Buenos Aires listings.

If you want to register, we do it for you

For owners who decide to register their property, we take care of everything: we prepare the documentation, handle the online registration through TAD and load the number into the listing. You don’t do any paperwork.

Questions about the registry

Does registration cost anything?
No, registration is free. What can cost money is getting the property in shape (insurance, inspections) — and the time the process takes, which we handle for you.
How long does it take?
The process is 100% online through the City’s TAD platform, with a miBA account (level 2 or 3). Since the February 2025 simplification, with the documentation ready, registration is practically immediate.
Does it apply if I rent only a few weeks a year?
Yes. The obligation comes from offering the home for tourist rental, not from the number of nights.
What is the registry number and where does it go?
It’s the code the City gives you upon registration; it must appear on every listing of the apartment. Platforms have a specific field for it.
